England U17s are back in action on Friday evening, when they take on Israel at London Road and hope to pick up their first win of the new season.
The Young Lions lost the first game of The FA International U17 Tournament on Wednesday night when Portugal were 2-1 victors at Nene Park, but England now have the chance to put things right just 48 hours on from that game.
After a recovery day for the players on Thursday, Head Coach John Peacock will have his squad ready for the game after thoroughly assessing Wednesday’s match, which England were desperately unfortunate to lose.
“There were more positives to take from the game and we’re now looking forward to the game on Friday against Israel,” he said.
“They (Portugal) couldn’t get near some of our midfield players who were making good forward runs into the area and we were very much in the ascendancy.
“The lads will learn from all of this and it’s part of their education, so let’s hope we can come back from it with a win on Friday.”
With qualifiers for the European U17 Championship coming up in October, Peacock knows that his squad can only learn from the experiences they will pick up in this Tournament.
And with the games coming thick and fast, with the third and final fixture against Italy taking place on Sunday, preparation is a key element.
“We’ll recover on Thursday, sit down and talk about it and show some DVD evidence and hopefully some lessons will be learned from this game,” added Peacock.
“More importantly though, if we can continue to play as they did for the majority of the time on Wednesday, I’ll be delighted with them.”
