UEFA European U17 Championship
2-13 May 2007
England Head Coach John Peacock has named an 18 man squad for next month's European Championships in Belgium.
Seventeen of the squad helped England qualify from the Elite Round in March, when Daniel Welbeck's last minute goal against Serbia snatched a place at the Finals. Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies is the only new face, coming in for the injured Ben Amos.
Some notable inclusions are Chelsea's Michael Woods, who became the fourth youngest player in his club's history when he came on as a substitute against Macclesfield in The FA Cup, and Plymouth Argyle's emerging talent Daniel Gosling. Daniel Rose, so impressive as England qualified from the Elite Round, is also retained.
The squad will meet on 26 April before flying out to Belgium four days later. England's first game in Group B is against Iceland on 2 May before the young Lions take on the hosts two days later.
Their last group game, and arguably the toughest, is against Holland on 7 May. England's last two games will be shown on Eurosport.
The top two sides in each group - France, Spain, Germany and Ukraine make up Group A - will qualify for the Semi-Finals.
There is an extra incentive this year as the top five sides will book a place at the World Championships in Korea, and as a result there will be a fifth/sixth place play-off.
