Baku, Azerbaijan Connor Wickham fired a first-half hat-trick against Azerbaijan to help book England a place in the Elite Round of the UEFA European U17 Championship. Wickham, who has enjoyed a spell in the Ipswich Town first team already this season, opened the scoring in the 18th minute and notched his second from the penalty spot on 29. His, and England's, third came just before the half-time interval and effectively ended the game as a contest. Benik Afobe, who replaced Wickham in the 59th minute, sealed the victory with his third goal in two games.
England defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 on Monday and they complete their First Round Qualifying fixtures against Serbia on Saturday, knowing their place in the next round is already secure. The other game in England's group saw Serbia beat Kazakhstan 1-0.
The Elite Round will take place in March 2010.
