Swain names squad for Wales clash

Eight new call-ups for Victory Shield encounter at Cheltenham.
Kenny Swain selects 18-man squad for game against Wales. England U16s Head Coach Kenny Swain has named his squad for next week’s Sky Sports Victory Shield games against Wales at the Abbey Business Stadium in Cheltenham.
After getting off to a good start in the competition earlier this month with a 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland, Swain will be looking for another good performance from his young lions.
England have won the Victory Shield for the last eleven years running, so Swain will be hoping to continue that trend this year whilst also aiding the international development of the young players at his disposal.
Speaking about his squad selection, Swain explained: "The Victory Shield is always good to have a look at emerging talent; we will hopefully be able to have a close look at up to 30 players and assess their performances.”
“The team produced a good display against Northern Ireland and the side that played last week are aware that there is a real depth to this squad, and plenty of more quality players will come through at this level during the next two games. It is important that all players involved in the development camp get the experience of playing football for their country.”
England will be looking to avenge their 4-0 defeat by Wales in last season’s competition but Swain insists it’s the performance that counts not the results at this level.
“Even though we got beat heavily by Wales last year, the results aren’t always particular important at this level. It’s mainly the performance that counts and when the performances are good the results will follow so that’s what we’re hoping for again this year.”
After the Wales clash England will head north to play Scotland on Friday 25 November in their final game of the competition.
