Kenny Swain's England U16 side slipped to their first defeat of the season, losing out on penalties to Portugal in the Final of the Montaigu Tournament in France.

Victories over Ukraine, Gabon and Japan propelled the Young Lions into the Final and extended their unbeaten run to seven matches, after three wins in the Victory Shield and a 1-1 draw with Belgium in February.

In Montaigu, the Portuguese took the lead on 13 minutes but midfielder Robbie Cotton scored his first England goal after 29 minutes to equalise and send the game to a penalty shoot-out, which Portugal won   3-1.
