Head Coach Kenny Swain wants to instil a 'hunger' in his players, leaving them wanting further call-ups.

England U16s travel to Wales for their second match in the Sky Sports Victory Shield on Friday and Head Coach Kenny Swain wants to instil a ‘hunger’ in his players, leaving them with a desire to represent their country on a regular basis.

England go into the match following an emphatic 6-0 win over Northern Ireland at the beginning of October and Swain has selected 12 of those triumphant players to face Wales in Llanelli.

Swain was delighted with the way his players gelled before the match in Ballymena and he has spoken of his desire for the six new call-ups to settle into the international fold just as smoothly.

"I hope the 12 players who were in the previous squad will push on and increase their experience at international level," he admitted, "but I'm also hoping that the six new players will cope with this new challenge and experience.

"We want every player involved in Victory Shield squads to enjoy the experience and hopefully their involvement will give them a hunger to play for their country again. We want to whet their appetite for international football and give them a desire to represent England at every level."

Aside from developing a sense of international pride, Swain also wants to maintain the level of performance he witnessed against Northern Ireland. A brace from Arsenal’s Benik Afobe was accompanied by a Ben Oliver own goal and strikes from Ross Barkley, Jake Fowler and Ra'vel Morrison completed a comfortable victory.

"Although we won 6-0, the most pleasing thing about that match was the fact that after only four days together, the players took into the match what they had learned and worked on in training," Swain revealed.

"We want to be effective with our possession and solid when we have lost possession. That’s what we did against Northern Ireland and I’d like that to continue against Wales."
