The Three Lions 6-0 defeat of Northern Ireland was their biggest Victory Shield winning margin for 34 years.

Kenny Swain's England U16s enjoyed a brilliant start to the season with a 6-0 win against Northern Ireland in Ballymena last week.

Arsenal's Benik Afobe led the way with a brace and the other scorers were Ross Barkley, Jake Fowler, Ra'vel Morrison and a Ben Oliver own goal.

It was England's biggest winning margin in a Victory Shield match for 34 years!

The Irish were beaten 7-0 in Birmingham in the 1974 competition and the England team that night included Kenny Sansom, the left-back who went on to be capped 86 times at Senior level.

In central defence England had Mark Higgins, who started 150 League matches for Everton, and Paul Clark who had a long career with Brighton and Southend. Wolves' Martin Patching played in midfield and Kevin Mabbutt, later of Bristol City and Crystal Palace, featured up front.

Next up for our sharp-shooting U16s are Wales in Llanelli on the last day of this month.
