England’s historic bow in the Euro Futsal 2014 Main Qualifying Round ended in defeat against top ten ranked Ukraine on Wednesday evening.
The Three Lions understandably started a little nervously in the impressive Ice Arena against their more experienced opponents and found themselves to be 2-0 down after twelve minutes.
A further goal was added by the Ukrainians in between some promising opportunities for England to leave the scoreline 3-0 at half time.
The break served England well and they came out with a renewed vigour and belief, having several key openings to score their first goal in the Main Round but the Ukrainians were resolute in their defence.
The half continued to ebb and flow with Ukraine pressing for further goals, but England were growing in confidence and this showed in their play.
But a tactical change from Ukraine saw them use the fly goalkeeper which resulted in three quick-fire goals in the last minute of the game to leave the scoreline looking like a one sided affair.
England will be looking to bounce back on Thursday in what will be in a partisan atmosphere against hosts Turkey, who lost their opener against Slovenia 5-3.
