England Futsal goalkeeper Curtis Holmes is in action for the Three Lions this weekend as they take on Montenegro in Hereford and he answered a few questions for TheFA.com
These are the first games you’ve had since the Euro qualifiers in January. Looking back at those games in Macedonia, what can you take out of them and into these matches?
I think the Euro qualifiers have equipped us with much needed experience against top class opposition. It gave us a chance to stand toe to toe with some great teams with a lot in their locker. They were very strong offensively and solid at the back, which was an excellent test. In fact, we had some great opportunities in both games and if we had capitalised on them, would have changed the games completely. Of course, the Estonia game was an excellent confidence booster, getting another win under our belts, which we thoroughly deserved. The lads showed tremendous character to come from behind and take the win like we did. It was also good to finish on a high, hopefully taking some momentum for us to build on over the forthcoming games.
There has been a continual improvement over the last few years, how has it been to be a part of the squad over that time?
It’s been great to be part of the squad over these last couple of years. There has always been a buzz of excitement amongst the squad because we all have faith in Pete and our own ability. With regard to the improvement, you can definitely notice the development of the squad after each camp and after each game. Hopefully it will pay off and we will achieve a string of results together and get through to the worlds.
What sort of a game do you expect from Montenegro?
I don't think there is ever an easy game in International Futsal. I think it will be a very tough game from a very strong team. I expect them to be very physical, but I'm confident that we can go out and get a result. Especially with us being at home.
