Alfredo Cuadrado scored with just eight seconds left on the countdown clock to give Spain a priceless 1-0 win over England at Hereford 2010 on Saturday.

The opening game of the fifth IBSA Blind World Football Championship at thePoint4 seemed destined for a draw before Caudrado's last gasp shot skidded off the artificial surface and beat Dan James in the England goal.

It was a cruel goal for Tony Larkin's team to concede, although Spain had enjoyed the greater possession and chances in the second period.

Spain were unlucky not to have been in the lead at half time when James gave away a penalty for handling outside the area. Antonio Martin took the spot kick but his effort fizzed wide by a matter of millimetres.

England's best first half chance fell to Keryn Seal whose left foot shot sailed agonisingly wide while star strikers, Jon Gribbin and Dave Clarke, just couldn't find a way through the Spanish defence.

Spain started to stretch the hosts in the second period and twice England were penalised for fouls beyond the three foul mark, gifting Spain free shots from the 8m spot.

Martin, so unlucky with his earlier penalty miss, teed up another right foot rocket which James managed to palm away and the second forced the England 'keeper to steer the ball against his right hand post.

England looked to have secured a point before Caudrado nipped in to steal the win at the death and send Spain to the Group A summit.

Tony Larkin commented afterwards: "We were eight seconds away from a decent point but that's football. The lads are a little down but the game has been and gone now and we need to regroup for South Korea on Monday."
