England's challenge for a semi-final berth at the CPISRA European Championships suffered a serious setback with a 6-0 defeat against a dynamic Ireland side.

After a resounding 12-0 victory over Finland in their opening fixture of Group B in Glasgow, the wind was taken out of the Three Lions' sails with the heavy reverse against their Irish neighbours.

Having gone 3-0 down at half-time, England briefly threatened a fightback but after Barker's best effort was beaten away, the Irish quickly reasserted themselves with three further goals.

Lyndon Lynch's side now have three days to regroup before their clashes with Australia on Sunday afternoon and Ukraine on Monday evening, knowing they are likely to need six points if they are to reach the final four of the competition.
