18-man squad for game with Republic Of Ireland.
Republic of Ireland v England C
International Challenge Trophy
Waterford United FC
7.45pm, Wednesday 26 May 2010 England C Manager Paul Fairclough has selected his squad for the opening International Challenge Trophy game with the Republic of Ireland later this month.
An 18-man squad has been selected for the game in Waterford and Fairclough will be hoping to get off to a winning start in Group B, which is comprised of England, Estonia and the Republic of Ireland. The UEFA sanctioned competition is now in its third edition with 11 National U23 sides taking part.
The game will be preceded by an FA Representative XI fixture against the East of Scotland League which will be played at Spartans FC in Edinburgh on Saturday 22 May.
The opportunity to play the FA XI fixture has worked out well, said Fairclough: “With six new faces in the squad and with a number of players not having played a competitive game for a few weeks, the match in Edinburgh will be an ideal opportunity for the players to gel together and get rid of any rustiness prior to the game in Waterford.
"With only two games in our qualifying group against the Irish and Estonia we cannot afford to drop any points if we want to qualify for the semi-finals.
"We desperately want to regain this Trophy. I was really disappointed following our defeat to Belgium last May and cannot wait to get our programme under way”
