England C manager Paul Fairclough is facing an anxious 24 hours as injury and illness has hit two of his 16-man squad ahead of Wednesday’s game with Finland.

The squad are out in snow-covered Helsinki as they prepare for the opening International Challenge Trophy Group A fixture at the Finnair Stadium.

Blyth Spartans goalkeeper Adam Bartlett was taken ill during the flight to Helsinki on Sunday and although he did manage to train on Monday night, he is not 100 per cent and may not be risked.

England were hit by a further blow when during a training session in freezing conditions, Oxford United's Matt Day (pictured) suffered a slight knee injury and only the next 24 hours will tell if he will be fit for the match.

However, there were no other adverse reactions following the session on the artificial pitch, with everyone in the party impressed with the way the surface played.

With snow forecast throughout Tuesday though, maybe the weather will have the biggest impact on the match.

The team which is to start the game on Wednesday will be as follows:-

Cronin, Brayford, Brownhill, Chalmers, Henry (C), Morrison, Penn, Lewis, Constable, Tubbs, Okay

Subs: Bartlett, Gleeson, Harrad, Knight-Percival, Day.
