Profile

Emily has played for her for her country at U16, U19 and U21 level.

After an injury to Kelly Smith, Emily stepped up to the senior squad and made her senior debut against Italy at MK Dons in February 2005.

Emily is a skilful midfielder who provides a link between the centre of midfield and attack, although she can also play on the left side of midfield.

Deceptively strong in the air, Emily has grown in stature over the last twelve months and worked hard after losing almost 18 months of her career when, just a few weeks after playing for England at the FIFA U19 Women’s World Cup finals in 2002, she severely damaged the cruciate ligament in her right knee.

It was a long and painful road that finally brought her back into action 12 months ago, but after a couple of false starts she has made such a successful comeback that she has forced her way into England contention and not looked out of place against some of the best players in international football.

Her move to Everton at the beginning of this season now sees Emily playing against some of her rivals for an England place and in October her conversion to emergency centre back for club also saw her converted there for country too.

In October 2008 Emily grabbed her first goal for her country at a crucial time; in the penultimate Euro 2009 qualifier against Czech Republic with England trailing 1-0 she smashed a terrific effort from 25 yards and set the Three Lions on course for a 5-1 victory.
