Chelsea left-back, Casey Stoney started all eight England matches in 2008, bringing her total number of caps up to 59.

A consistent and mature defender, Stoney has proved herself to be a key member of Hope Powell’s England squad and is sure to be in the reckoning when Powell selects her squad for the European Championship Finals next summer.

If she is selected, Stoney will bring tournament experience to the squad, having been one of only four players to have played every minute of England’s 2007 World Cup campaign.

Stoney put in steady performances for both club and country throughout 2008 and she had a hand to play in England’s third goal against Belarus in May. Stoney and Rachel Yankey built an attack before feeding Williams in space through the middle.

Williams drove forward and was given the chance to shoot as Belarus backed off, her effort flying into the top corner. England went on to win the match 6-1.
