2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship

The draw for next summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship has been made and England will be in Group B alongside the Czech Republic, Serbia and Italy.

The eight-team tournament begins on 10 June and, following the draw on Friday at the City Hall in Arnhem, England's in-form Under-21s, unbeaten in 2006, can look ahead to their opening game on 11 June against the Czechs in Arnhem.

The team will remain there for their next encounter against Italy on 14 June then head to Nijmegen to face Serbia on 17 June.

The FA's Head of National Teams, Ray Clemence, standing in for Peter Taylor who could not attend the draw due to club commitments, was optimistic after seeing who the Three Lions will meet in the Group phase. The team know that a top two finish in the table will see them qualify for the Semi-Final.

"We knew there would be no easy draw as there are eight strong teams in contention," said Clemence.

"Italy in particular have an incredible record at Under-21s level but Serbia and Czech Republic also represent tough opposition. We were pleased to avoid Portugal as historically they have given us problems."

He added: "However, the England team will be full of confidence on the back of four straight wins against strong teams and they will be highly motivated to give a good account of themselves."

Each of the tournament’s 15 games will be shown live on Sky Sports, from the opening match in Heerenveen on Sunday 10 June to the Final in Groningen on Saturday 23 June.
