England ‘keeper Paul Robinson has today given his backing to Tottenham’s Under-21 stars Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone ahead of Friday’s UEFA U21 Championship Play-Off against France.
Almost 25,000 tickets have been sold already for England Under-21s’ UEFA U21 Championship Play-Off against France this Friday 11 November. The
match, which will kick-off at 7.30pm, could be England’s first sell-out match since they met Germany in March at Hull in the group qualifying stage.
Robinson is expecting Tottenham’s youngsters to turn in star performances in front of their home fans and claims that having two Spurs players in the squad at White Hart Lane will lift the crowd and swing the fixture in England’s favour.
"White Hart Lane will be absolutely buzzing for this fixture and the England players will really feel the benefit of the home support," said Robinson.
"I know the Tottenham players are really looking forward to representing England at their home club and I think we can expect big performances from
them to put England in a good position for qualification.
"I’d urge all Spurs fans to turn out and support England at White Hart Lane and cheer on the lads to victory."
Peter Taylor’s young lions finished second in qualifying group six behind Germany, setting up the two-leg play-off with France. England will need to seal qualification in the return leg at the Stade Marcel Picot in Nancy, north-east France, but will be hoping to put the fixture beyond doubt on home soil.
The team is hoping for a sell-out crowd to give them the upper hand in this First Leg encounter, with the return leg being played in Nancy next Tuesday 15 November.
The FA would like to stress to supporters coming to the England v France game at White Hart Lane this Friday to arrive early.
We anticipate a large crowd for the UEFA Under-21 Championship Play-Off and although a sizeable percentage of those coming to the match will be Spurs fans, a significant number of those coming on Friday will not be used to the difficulties in getting to White Hart Lane on a matchday.
A 7.30pm kick-off coupled with London and Friday traffic will also make the roads around the ground busier than normal so to avoid any disappointment, we would urge supporters to arrive early.
