Denmark v England
International U21 Friendly
SAS Arena, Herning
16 August 2005

Peter Taylor has named a 24-man squad to face Denmark in a friendly match in Herning next Tuesday.

The match is England's last before they face two crucial European U21 Championship qualifiers away to Wales and Germany next month. Taylor's team currently sit top of their group with four wins and two draws from their first six qualification matches.

Four Tottenham Hotspur players are in the party, including Tom Huddlestone who impressed with the England U20s in Toulon in June and at 18 is the youngest player in the squad.

The versatile Spurs player is one of eleven players who went to Toulon, when Taylor took charge of the U20s side. Aston Villa duo Peter Whittingham and Liam Ridgewell, along with Newcastle United's Steven Taylor and James Milner are others who also went.

Having switched clubs in the summer, Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent has an excellent record at this level, as do Norwich City's Dean Ashton and Carlton Cole of Chelsea.

Two members of the squad have won caps at senior level - Stewart Downing made his solitary appearance against Holland at Villa Park in February whilst Kieran Richardson played twice for England on their US Tour, scoring a brace on debut against the host country.

Denmark are one of Europe's form teams at the moment and, like England, are top of their qualifying group, with 22 points from a possible 24.

However England are unbeaten in nine U21 matches against Denmark going back to the sides' first meeting in September 1978.
