England Under 21 International
England v Ukraine
Tuesday 17 August 2004, 8pm
Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough

With the senior team due to play Ukraine at St James' Park the following night it means the North East will be the first stop for 'England on the Road' after the excitement of Euro 2004.

The FA's Chief Executive, Mark Palios, said: "The Riverside is one of the best stadiums in the country, and Middlesbrough have an excellent record as England hosts both at Senior and Under-21 level, I'm delighted that the England Under-21s will return there to play Ukraine."

Boro manager Steve McClaren, who is currently assisting England with coaching duties at Euro 2004, said the match represented another coup for the club.

"Coming only 12 months after the Riverside hosted its first full international, this is marvellous news for the football club, the town and the fans," he said.

"I enjoyed seeing the full England side play on Teesside and look forward to watching our talented young players in action at our stadium."

Boro's Chief Executive Keith Lamb said: "We are delighted that The FA has chosen Middlesbrough to host another prestigious game.

"It's an honour not only for the football club but for the region as a whole and I am sure our supporters will give England Under-21's their full support on the night.

"We were proud and thrilled to host the full international between England and Slovakia last year and received extremely positive feedback from all sides. It was a very special night so we are naturally pleased that The FA have again asked us to host one of their biggest games."
