Today is the crunch match against Portugal and we need a win to keep things in our own hands. The group is finely poised and everyone is taking points off each other, and we can't afford to rely on the Italy v Switzerland game going our way. There's no point calculating - we just need to focus on winning and qualifying for the semi-finals.

It was really disappointing to lose against Italy on Monday. After we got the equaliser we were really fired up and could have gone on to win it. I thought that we had the upper hand but their second goal was pure class. You will find it hard to find a better touch and finish at the World Cup. Maccarone and Pirlo especially showed what quality players they were at times, but in general I thought we handled Italy pretty well. All the lads played their hearts out and to come out with nothing was tough.

It was even harder with Zat Knight having a perfectly valid goal ruled out for pushing. Zat says he only touched the defender as he came down and the ball was in the net by that time. Everyone who has seen it on TV says the same thing, but we have to put that away now.

We will be looking for a bit of revenge over Portugal after they beat us at Stoke last month, but there is no doubt that they will be really motivated as well because they are still in with an outside chance of qualifying. The Italy game was like a home game for them with so many Italians living in Switzerland and I'm sure tonight will be the same for the Portuguese. Watching their match against Switzerland on the TV they seemed to have more support than the hosts, so we know it will be a lively atmosphere.

We spent a large part of yesterday relaxing, walking and stretching and generally getting our bodies ready for this one. The games come thick and fast in this championship, and the coaches have done all they can to get us ready. The confidence and belief are still there. Now it's up to us to do the job on the pitch.
