England U19s' unbeaten run came to an end on a cold Wednesday night in Germany.

After clocking up four consecutive victories, three coming in UEFA Championship Qualifying, the Young Lions met their match in a game devoid of clear-cut chances.

The hosts dominated the opening exchanges and only a handful of smart saves from impressive goalkeeper David Button kept England on level terms.

There was nothing he could do to prevent Germany taking the lead in the 34th minute though. After making the initial save, the Spurs stopper could only stand and watch as Savio Nsereko followed up to slot home the rebound.

England had a great chance to draw level on the stroke of half-time but Ciaran Clark headed just wide.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, the best of which fell to Chelsea's Jack Cork. His effort looked destined to claw England back in the game only for the German keeper to push the ball against the crossbar.
