England 3-1 Serbia and Montenegro UEFA European U19 Championship, Semi-Final Mourneview Park, Lurgan 26 July 2005England U19s coach Martin Hunter was understandably delighted with his side's 3-1 win over Serbia and Montenegro in the semi-finals of the European U19 Championship.
England swept aside their highly-rated opponents in what was their most impressive display of the tournament so far.
"We watched Serbia and Montenegro quite a lot and we had a game plan which we stuck to," Hunter said. "One of the features was how high they defend. So we thought we could get at their back four [and] stop them playing out, and it proved so in this game.
"They're a very skilful team and teams that have dropped off them have had all sorts of problems so we didn't want them to play out of defence. They've been playing very well and have caused teams lots of problems, so we set out to disrupt them and we did it.
"And then, if they did get good possession, we pressed them as a team. Our strikers caused them problems and we said when we played the first match here, if we could get a bit of momentum going, we'd just get better and better."
England are unbeaten so far and with the tournament taking place in time that would normally be devoted to pre-season training, it is noticeable how England are getting stronger with every match.
"I see the players' sharpness returning, and today we've played something like we can, which we hadn't so far in this tournament. Hopefully, we can take it on a further stage in the final," Hunter continued.
"I thought it was a very professional performance. I'm delighted for the whole squad, the coaching staff and the people who are watching back home. We need two days of rest, recovery and preparation and then we'll prepare as we always do; down to the last detail.
"We'll analyse the opposition, debrief the players on the game and look at what we've done particularly well and what we need to improve on, and then we'll talk about the opposition and come up with a game plan."
