Hunter names U19 squad
By Matt Hale. Tuesday, 08 March 2005.
Martin Hunter has named his 18-man squad to face Denmark, Sweden and Moldova in this month's Second Qualifying Round mini-tournament for the UEFA Under-19 European Championship.
The tournament, which takes place on Saturday 26, Monday 28 and Wednesday 30 March, will showcase the four nations' talented youngsters as they battle it out for top spot and a place in this summer's European U19 Championship Finals.
Hunter's England side will certainly be going into the matches with confidence. Their four preparatory friendlies this season have produced two wins and two draws against quality opposition, including a fantastic victory over powerhouses of international football France.
With the matches also taking place in the North West of England, at Blackpool, Bury, and Crewe, the Three Lions will be hoping for a partisan support to get behind them as they look to capitalise on home advantage.
On naming his squad the England Under-19 Manager said: "It’s a well known fact that a lot of these players have already got first team experience, so it’s a very talented group to work with.
"We go into the mini-tournament for the players to pit their wits against the best in Europe - performance is important, but these are competitive matches and we'll be looking to win them.
"The matches will be a real test and I hope that football fans in the North West will come along and support the team."
Tickets will go on sale shortly and fans should log onto TheFA.com for further information. Tickets will be priced at £3 for adults in advance (£5 on day of game) and £1 for children (U16) and OAPs.
