Brian Eastick is hoping that England's next generation can seize their opportunity to impress when they take on Austria at Hartlepool.
While Eastick will take the current U19s to Belarus next month for the Elite Round, the match with Austria will be a chance to look at the players who will be challenging for places in next season's U19s age group.
Eastick told TheFA.com: "This is an opportunity for myself and the staff to see how well they can adapt and apply themselves to the different demands of international football.
"In effect we use the two U18 friendly fixtures each season to help prepare for next season's UEFA Under-19 Championship Qualifying Tournament.
"It also means established members of the squad are given the opportunity to continue their international development.
"I know here at Hartlepool United, under the guidance of Danny Wilson, the philosophy is to play attractive skilful football. This is a culture that I am sure will run throughout the club from top to bottom.
"Perhaps I should say bottom to top, because the challenge for all of us working with young players is to produce players of the highest quality technically. This in turn enables the coach of the senior team to play an attractive game style."
