John Peacock spoke to TheFA.com after the match to give his appraisal of his team's performance.

England U17s Coach John Peacock was proud of his team after their efforts almost brought England's first piece of silverware for 14 years.

The Three Lions came runners-up in the UEFA European U17s Championship after defeat to Spain in Belgium on Sunday evening, but their consolation is a place, for the first time, in the World Championships later this year.

Barcelona stiker, Bojan Krkic, one of Europe's hottest properties, struck eight minutes into the second half to sneak a 1-0 win to the disappointment of Peacock's team.

"I think they slightly edged it," said an honest Peacock after the final whistle. "The first half was a tactical game, it was pretty even, not too many chances at either end.

"In the second-half our defenders did very well against Bojan and looked after him for most of the game, but just that one chance. That's why he's a quality striker.

"We had a chance about ten minutes later when Woods had a similar one and it just came out to him on the edge of the box, but it went wide. In the end one goal was enough to win Spain the game."

Despite the defeat, England have a lot to look forward to. A promising side has reach a European Final and also qualified for the World Championship and Peacock praised the players for what they have achieved.

He added: "The lads are extremely disappointed. They've given everything over the last few weeks, they've worked really hard and taken on board everything we've asked of them. They've been magnificent for the last two weeks, they really have.

"We set our objectives are the start to get to the Worlds, to make sure we reach the Semi-Finals. We did that and then we wanted to get to the Final and we've done that, too.

"We wanted to win today, but we came up against a very good team."
