Before the championship started, McDermott knew he a had a young squad who needed time on the pitch in order to gain some valuable international experience.

"The general thing we outlined before the tournament we have managed to achieve," McDermott said to TheFA.com. "Every player has had an opportunity to play at some point in the first two games.

"That means that we have given seven players their full debuts at this level and they have all done very well."

England have yet to concede a goal as after registering a 1-0 win over Sweden, McDermott's charges beat the Faroe Islands 2-0.

"The quality of the performances have been very good, especially when you think of the number of changes we have made.

"The first game saw us just beat a very good Swedish side. They were very strong and physical - a very strong side. They showed plenty of guile in their attacking play and we had to show plenty of character to come away with a win.

"The Faroe Islands were a different challenge. They defended very deep and based their game on the counter-attack. They were quite good at breaking the game up and as such it was difficult for us to get into passing rhythm.

"We played well but we didn't quite manage to put the finish on the end of some good build-up play. We just need to work on what we do in the box.

After those two results, England are on the verge of going through to the final, not that that is ultimate goal of this championship.

"We don't really talk about getting to the final. We are just keen to rotate the squad and play well. Having some good performances is the most important thing but spirit is high and we are looking forward to the rest of the week.

"Denmark are going to be a tough test as they beat Sweden 4-1 [recently]. They will provide us with a stiff challenge but we've got better and better this week so Denmark represent the perfect challenge.

Today saw the squad have a well-earned day off and a chance for the players to rest some weary limbs and enjoy themselves.

McDermott said: "Today was a free day and after two games in two days it was important for us to have a free day today. We swam and did some recovery work this morning and this this afternoon played some mini golf.

"After dinner tonight we will review the game and talk about the areas in which we need to approve."
