Nordic International Tournament,
England Under 17 Group A Fixture at Bjornsvallen

Friday 2nd August 2002, 4pm kick off (3pm bst)

England took the lead midway through the first half when West Ham starlet Mark Noble collected the ball on the halfway line. His powerful run towards the box was finished off in style when he swept a low shot around the last defender, and the ball nestled in the bottom left hand corner of the net.

With England only needing a point to reach the final match, time was running out for the Norwegians and they were finally killed off with two minutes of normal time when Kyle Nix, hauled down on the edge of the box, dispatched his free kick neatly into the top corner to make it two.

Norway did manage an injury time consolation, courtesy of a free kick of their own, but it was all too late and John McDermott’s young lions roared into the final match.
