The Algarve Tournament
Saturday 2 February - Tuesday 5 February 2008
England, Denmark, France, and Portugal
Algarve, Portugal
England U17 Head Coach John Peacock has named his 18 man squad for the forthcoming Algarve Tournament.
The Young Lions will meet Denmark, France and hosts Portugal in February as Peacock continues his preparations for March's Elite Round Qualifying for the European Championship Finals.
The U17s - Victory Shield winners while U16 last year - have made an encouraging start to the season, losing just once in ten games. They have recorded seven victories, scoring 30 and conceding just six times.
Newcastle's Ryan Donaldson has been in sensational form this season, scoring seven goals, and Peacock will need him on form for the trip to Portugal.
While Peacock would love to return from the trip with three victories, he knows the bigger picture is the Euro Qualifiers the following month.
Held in Israel, England will battle France, Russia and the hosts for a place at the European Championship Finals in Turkey.
Peacock led last year's U17s to the brink of Euro glory last year, the Lions eventually falling to a talented Spain side in the European Final - a performance which guaranteed them a place at the U17 World Cup in Korea.
The Head Coach would relish another crack at the best in Europe and will work towards that goal in Portugal.
