Sir Trevor Brooking is hoping that Wembley will be a great spur for the young players on show against Spain.

Sir Trevor Brooking hopes that the taste of playing at Wembley will become a huge incentive for the England U16s to work hard and hopefully make it back there in the future.

Playing against Spain in front of 28,210 at Wembley Kenny Swain's side could be forgiven for letting the enormity of the occasion affect their performance, but the Young Lions were composed and recorded a 1-0 victory.

Sir Trevor, The FA's Director of Football Development, feels that the game will prove a spur to the young players involved.

"When you see a stadium like this I'm sure a lot of players are thinking 'Will I ever get the chance to play here?' But these lads have already played at the new Wembley, which is a big step, and I think that like the Under-21s it whets their appetite to have that desire to come back here and play again, and this is a priceless experience for the future."

"Spain have good individual skills and some talented midfielders, and our players had to stay on their feet and not dive in. It's a slightly different way of playing that you have to adapt your style to, so it's really important that we've been to Montaigu and played teams like France and Germany.

"This group has had a good year and they will form our U17s squad when it gets a bit more serious for the UEFA qualifiers next year."

With a number of young fans in the crowd, Sir Trevor was pleased that so many people have been given the opportunity to see England U16s in action.

"It was a very good atmosphere and there were a lot of youngsters inside the ground which was nice, and it was a great opportunity for them to see some young English footballers learning their trade.

"It was a great occasion and from everyone's point of view there were a lot positives.

"We are pleased to get the win, although we say at this age results don't matter it's about the players' experience, first of all playing in a stadium like this in front of a big crowd."
