Kenny Swain's Young Lions win the Victory Shield outright with a thrilling win over Scotland at Glanford Park. |
England U16s attracted a fantastic crowd of 28,210 at Wembley, on a day when the Young Lions were competing with a full fixture list of domestic games.
In one of the biggest attendances of the day, Kenny Swain's side entertained the second set of fans to watch a game at Wembley and scored an impressive victory over Spain.
Brian Barwick was impressed by the turnout, and also the standard of football from a young group of players.
Barwick said: "It was a tremendous occasion for youth football to have so many supporters in the stadium watching the game.
"Together with the Under-21s game last month, it shows that there is a real interest in the development and progression of our youngest players and fans understand just how important the process is for these players to prepare for senior, first team football.
"It was a beautiful day and an exciting game, and I know that those young players will go away with some fantastic memories of their first game at Wembley.
"It was a youthful crowd, youthful players and Wembley of course is a youthful stadium. But I think that everyone will learn something from today, and for both the England players and Wembley I think the future is very bright."
