Old Trafford has already proved itself at international level, successfully hosting several senior England internationals, including the 2-2 draw against Greece in October 2001, when David Beckham's last-minute free kick sealed qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

It was also the stage for three matches of the 1966 World Cup and five matches during Euro 96, as well as England friendlies against Scotland (1926), South Africa (1997) and most recently Sweden (2001), when Beckham was again on score sheet.
In May this year the 'Theatre of Dreams' played host to the UEFA Champions League Final between AC Milan and Juventus, and with a capacity of 68,210 is the largest football stadium in England.

When announcing the fixture, The FA's Director of Marketing and Communications Paul Barber said: "We're delighted to be staging another senior international at Old Trafford.

"Manchester United have already showed their commitment to and support for The FA and our national teams by hosting a number of international matches at all levels, as well as FA Cup Semi-finals and FA Youth Cup Finals.

"We are pleased to be offering the greatest number of fans the opportunity to witness England's final home Euro 2004 Qualifier, and we look forward to a fantastic atmosphere in one of Europe's finest stadiums."

Manchester United Managing Director David Gill added: "Manchester United is thrilled to be working with The Football Association to host this critical match in England's qualification campaign for Euro 2004. We have a great working relationship with The FA and are honoured to have staged England matches at Old Trafford in the past, including the crucial World Cup qualifier against Greece. We are greatly looking forward to hosting the Liechtenstein game in September and are sure it will be a great occasion for everyone."

England's only previous encounter with Liechtenstein was the away qualifier in Vaduz on 29th March, when goals from Michael Owen and David Beckham clinched a 2-0 win.
