Paul won his first cap for England coming off the bench in the 3-1 defeat to Australia at Upton Park in February 2003.

The left-sided defender became the youngest player in Charlton Athletic history to appear in a competitive match when he made his senior debut aged just 16 years and 93 days in 1997.

Had on loan spell from the Valley to Spurs before making a permanent switch in the summer of 2005 to his boyhood club West Ham United.

Made a return to the England squad for the friendly against Argentina in November 2005 a was once again used as a half-time substitute to record his second cap.
