David Platt was one of the best England players of his generation, and was the leading figure in the Graham Taylor side of the early 1990s.

Having burst onto the scene at Italia '90, Platt suffered the double disappointment of a First Round exit at Euro '92 and failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

In a crucial qualifier in Rotterdam in October 1993, Platt was involved in an infamous incident with Ronald Koeman in a match which effectively ended England's USA '94 hopes.

Platt captained his side on 19 occasions and played in four out of five matches at Euro '96.
