A world-class inside-left, Haynes made his debut in 1954 against Northern Ireland in Belfast, scoring in the Three Lions' 2-0 win.
That was the first of 18 goals for his country, which included one hat-trick - against the Soviet Union at Wembley in October 1958, four months after the Soviets had knocked England out of the 1958 World Cup.
Haynes played in that World Cup, the one in Chile four years later and was captain 22 times. |
