First Goal
Paul is a midfielder with great distribution and an eye for goal. He has been an England regular since Glenn Hoddle started him in two of the three “Tournoi” matches in France in 1997. He has been an ever-present in two World Cups and one European Championship and his England goals have included a hat-trick in Kevin Keegan’s first match as manager, a European Championship qualifier against the Poles at Wembley. Paul has won six Premierships and two FA Cups in a trophy-filled 11 years at United – but had the misfortune to miss out on their European Cup triumph in Barcelona in 1999. He continues to be an outstanding influence at Old Trafford, scoring 13 times as United clinched the title in 2003.
After breaking his barren run in front of goal with a strike against Croatia in Euro 2004, Scholes bowed out of the international scene, announcing his retirement from England action in August.
