First Goal

Upson had long been hailed as a future England defender, and his move from Arsenal to Steve Bruce’s Birmingham in January 2003 allowed him the regular first team action he needed to flourish. His impressive performances in Birmingham’s solid defensive unit led to an international call-up in May 2003 to face South Africa, and he has since continued in the same vein, rapidly adding to his tally of caps.
