Having established himself with England's Under-21s, winning a record number of caps at that level, the versatile Carragher is now making regular appearances in the Senior set-up.

He is one of the most committed and competitive players in the England team and his determination was never more evident when he returned to action just four months after breaking his leg against Blackburn in September 2003.

A move to the heart of Liverpool's defence has seen him become a mainstay of the side and one of the most vital players for the Reds as they went on to win the Champions League in 2005.
