England's Wembley friendly with Czech Republic in three weeks' time will only be the seventh match that we have ever played in August.

In fact, before 2001, England had played no internationals at all in that month. A new trend was set when Holland came to White Hart Lane on 15 August in that year.

England have had a mixed set of results in August, winning three games and losing the other three.

Here are the scores so far:-

2001: England 0 Holland 2 at White Hart Lane on 15 August

2003: England 3 Croatia 1 at Portman Road on 20 August

2004: England 3 Ukraine 0 at St James' Park on 18 August

2005: Denmark 4 England 1 in Copenhagen on 17 August

2006: England 4 Greece 0 at Old Trafford on 16 August

2007: England 1 Germany 2 at Wembley on 22 August

All the above were friendlies. The highlights have been a Shaun Wright-Phillips goal on his debut as a substitute against Ukraine and a comprehensive win over Greece, the Euro 2004 Champions, in Steve McClaren's first game in charge.
