David Beckham has admitted it would be an honour to make it to 100 caps for England - and revealed that two years ago he didn't expect to get anywhere near the milestone.

Beckham could become the fifth player to make 100 England appearances if he plays some part against France in Paris on Wednesday.

The LA Galaxy midfielder says he will be honoured to join the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton and Peter Shilton among those who have reached the landmark, and insists he still hopes to be in Fabio Capello's squad for the 2010 World Cup.

"I would be honoured to make it to 100 in an England shirt, and honoured to make it against one of the best teams in the world in a city I love," said Beckham.

"To be mentioned in the same class and alongside the names of those who have reached 100 caps and gone above that is a massive honour for me.

"You go through your career and you want and hope to make records and do certain things in it.

"I've been lucky enough to play for my country 99 times, and it would be one of the biggest honours in my career, but I want to carry on.

"At the moment I'm just enjoying it as a year or two years ago I never thought I would make it to 99, let alone 100."

He continued: "The 2010 World Cup is still an ambition, I'm quite a stubborn person and I want to reach it.

"I'd love to still be a squad member, I'm taking each game as it comes but it's an honour to play for my country - but who knows what will happen?"
