Scott Carson revealed his delight at having made his England debut in Austria, before paying tribute to Aston Villa teammate and fellow debutant Ashley Young.

Having earned 29 caps for England at Under-21 level, Carson has been involved in every senior squad this term and made his first appearance in the friendly on Friday evening in Vienna.

Despite being delighted to represent his country, and not concede a goal, Carson was quick to pass on his congratulations to club colleague Ashley Young who joined him on the pitch in the second period.

Carson told TheFA.com: "He came in and wished me all the best when I heard I was making my debut, but I said to him you could be making your debut too so be ready!

"At half-time when the manager said he was coming on I was delighted for him. I thought he did well, playing just how he does for Aston Villa every week."

Having found out a day in advance, Carson was able to fully appreciate in advance that he would be making his first start for England at the Ernst Happel Stadion.

"I found out on Thursday morning, and I was absolutely delighted," Carson explained.

"I was looking to get a steady performance out there and a clean sheet, and that's what has happened tonight so you it couldn't have gone much better for me tonight."
