Wayne Rooney says that playing for England at Wembley is something he has always dreamed of, and revealed his satisfaction at crowning the occasion with a goal and a victory.

Rooney scored his first competitive goal since Euro 2004 to help England cruise to a 3-0 win over Estonia which keeps alive their hopes of reaching the European Championship Finals next summer.

Rooney told TheFA.com: "Playing at Wembley for England is something I have always dreamed about doing, so I was delighted to do that.

"The crowd were brilliant, they really got behind us today and we'll definately need their support on Wednesday night in Russia."

It was the first time that Rooney was able to link up with Michael Owen under Steve McClaren, and the Manchester United forward was pleased with how the partnership went against Estonia.

"It was good," Rooney admitted. "Michael played well, he got through a few times but got flagged offside even though from where I was he looked onside.

"He's done very well today, especially considering that he's only had his operation nottoo long ago."

As far as Rooney's own fitness is concerned, the Manchester United forward is feeling better and better with every game and goal that goes by. Having scored in two consecutive games for Man Utd prior to joining up with England, Rooney has now scored in three in a row.

"I feel fit and I feel good, probably with every game I play I get better and fitter and I just can't wait to get more games under my belt.

Rooney also believes that England have to take a positive approach into the game with Russia on Wednesday if they are to be successful in a game that could clinch qualification for the Three Lions.

"We have to be positive, because it's going to be a difficult game. It will be different surroundings and obviously a different pitch.

"Everyone knows it will be tough, but we have a believe in ourselves that we can go there and get a result."
