Steve McClaren says both Ashley Young and David Bentley have a real chance of making their England debuts against either Israel or Russia in the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Young, who starred for Stuart Pearce's Under-21 side in Holland last summer, has been in scintillating form for Aston Villa so far this season.

And the England Head Coach believes the 22-year-old will benefit from the experience of playing with such a strong group of players.

"I think it's good for experience, he's been in terrific form and was outstanding for the under-21's in the summer," said McClaren.

"He's carried that form into the beginning of the season and this is an ideal opportunity to promote a player from the under-21's, something I'm keen on doing.

"He definitely has a chance of taking part. How he performs in training, we'll have to wait and see before assessing him."

McClaren has also called-up Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley, despite voicing his criticism of the 23-year-old's decision to withdraw from the England squad for the under-21 Championship

"I said at the time it was the wrong decision and he accepted that and paid the consequences. But there's been a line drawn under it and this is a new squad, he's in there and he deserves to be."

And the England head coach believes the duo will boost his squad's capabilities, claiming he is confident of success against both Israel and Russia in the coming week.

"I'm always confident. We've got a good set of players, players who are used to this level of competition and used to winning," he added.

"I'm very confident. I like working with these players, we've got a good squad and it's up to us to deliver."
