England Head Coach Steve McClaren has named his 28-man squad to face Spain in a friendly at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

There are four new names under McClaren as Jonathan Woodgate, Kieron Dyer, Gareth Barry and Joey Barton are all included for the first time during the England Head Coach's reign.

For Barton it is the first ever call into the senior set up, with the Manchester City midfielder joining his teammate Micah Richards in the fold for the match with Luis Aragones' side.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been involved for the England Under-21s in the past, winning two caps and scoring against Portugal at Goodison Park in a European Championship Qualifier in September 2003.

The last time Woodgate turned out for the Three Lions was against Sweden in March 2004 and the Middlesbrough defender will be eager to add to his tally of five caps.

NewcastleUnited midfielder Kieron Dyer is also in the squad, as is Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, while Owen Hargreaves comes back into the squad after missing the last three games of 2006 through injury.

The Bayern Munich midfielder was this week named 'Nationwide England Player of 2006' as voted by the fans on TheFA.com. For more information on the award

Wayne Rooney will be looking to continue his fine recent scoring form that has seen the Manchester United striker net four goals in his last three appearances. The 21-year-old forward also scored in the Three Lions last match against Holland.

The game will be the first opportunity of the new year to see the Three Lions in action, and crucial preparation for the Euro 2008 double header in March against Israel and Andorra.

The friendly will kick off at 8pm and will be Spain's first visit to England since February 2001 when the Three Lions ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Villa Park.

It will be the 21st senior encounter between the two nations since their first meeting in May 1929 when Spain were victorious 4-3 in Madrid. England, though, edge the battle with eleven victories to Spain's six.
