England Player of the Weekend
Jamie Carragher is TheFA.com's Player of the Weekend after scoring his first League goal since he notched in the Reds' 7-1 win over Southampton in January 1999, almost seven years ago.
Carragher's England team-mate Steven Gerrard had already put Liverpool into the lead with a rebounded penalty when the reliable defender got on the end of a Daniel Agger flick to double the advantage.
In more than 300 appearances for Liverpool it is only the fourth goal for Carragher, and the first he has scored since the turn of the century. His very first goal for his hometown club came against Aston Villa in his first Premiership start.
Inspired by Carragher and Gerrard, the Reds went on to record a thumping 4-0 win over Fulham and continue their fine recent form, Luis Garcia and Mark Gonzalez adding goals to put a seal on the victory.
Wayne Rooney scored the opening goal for Manchester United as they triumphed in the derby with City, while Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville provided stubborn resistance to the attacks of Stuart Pearce's side.
Elsewhere Ashley Cole played his first game against his former club Arsenal with honours even in the contest, while Jermain Defoe was on the scoresheet again for Tottenham as they came up trumps in the other London derby over Charlton.
