Steve McClaren named his starting eleven for Wednesday night's friendly in Holland and Micah Ricards has been handed his first start.

The 18-year-old Manchester City defender will begin at right back to earn his senior debut and become the seventh youngest ever England player.

Speaking soon after the team's arrival in Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoon, McClaren announced his starting line-up and said why he's picked Richards.

"I have been very impressed by him because he is an exciting young player," McClaren said. "He is a new breed of player who is big, strong and athletic.

"He does not look fazed by the fact he is making his debut. I have seen his face and he looks excited."

There have been eight withdrawals from the squad that McClaren announced on Friday, but the England Head Coach insists it has not affected his preparations for the game.

"I expected that to be honest," he added. "I chose a squad of 28 players because it is that time of the season. We came out here with 22 players and they are all fit and ready to play."

Andrew Johnson also starts up front alongside Wayne Rooney while Steven Gerrard will operate on the right-side of midfield, Joe Cole on the left, with Michael Carrick partnering Frank Lampard in the middle.

At the back alongside debutant Richards, the familiar central pairing of Rio Ferdinand and skipper John Terry with Ashley Cole at left back.
