A bullish John Terry insists England would have travelled to Zagreb targeting a win regardless of the result against Macedonia.

The England skipper was a disappointed man on Saturday when The Three Lions were held to a goalless draw by the Eastern Europeans despite Frank Lampard, Peter Crouch, Steven Gerrard and Gary Neville all going close.

But the imposing defender says the result has not changed his thinking and added that England's hopes of a victory on the road still remain.

"No matter what the result against Macedonia, we were aiming to go there [Croatia] and pick up three points," said Terry.

"At the back of our mind, we know we need to go out there and pick up three points, it's as simple as that."

However, Terry knows beating Croatia will be far from easy and the team managed by ex-West Ham defender Slaven Bilic will go into Wednesday's game buoyant after slamming seven past minnows Andorra.

The hosts have an formidable home record too, never having lost a European qualifier in their back yard, although England can take heart from two wins and a draw in their three matches with Croatia.

The last time the teams met, Wayne Rooney scored twice as The Three Lions cruised to a 4-2 win in Euro 2008. Needless to say, Terry is hoping for a similar result.

"It's a tough place to go, we certainly know that," added Terry
