Peter Crouch post Macedonia

TheFA.com managed to grab the nation's new hero to get his reaction after another match-winning performance.

Peter Crouch has been confirmed as the Official Nationwide England Man of the Match for the game against Macedonia on Wednesday night.

Crouch's goal in Skopje earned a 1-0 victory for the Three Lions against Macedonia and the Liverpool man is the talk of football.

In our online poll Crouch received just short of 40% of the votes, with captain John Terry coming closest to the Liverpool striker ahead of Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand.

It was a spectacular strike, too - the tall striker twisting to hook the ball from behind him before seeing it crash against the bar and over the line.

Speaking immediately after the game he said, "I am enjoying it. It is a creative team and we know we are going to create chances and at the moment I am taking them which is great.

"I've been told it was over the line. I just had my back to goal and swivelled so I didn't see it go over the line. It took an age for the referee to give it but thankfully he did.

England Head Coach Steve McClaren saved special praise for Liverpool striker Crouch who is possibly the hottest striker in world football right now - having scored five goals in three games for his new international manager.

"He’s such a threat," said McClaren. "He leads the line well. He took a lot of stick tonight and was unfortunate with decisions from the referee all game but he stuck at his task and he took his opportunity very well."
