England Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is looking forward to having a first-class training pitch when he takes the squad's first training session in Germany on June 6.
Following a ground inspection at Baden Baden on Thursday, which included Wembley Stadium Grounds Manager Steve Welch and England Coach Tord Grip, the decision has been made to returf the pitch in preparation for the visit of the Three Lions.
The result will be an internatonal standard pitch, meaning England can train for the World Cup on a superb surface.
"I’m very pleased that the pitch at the training ground is to be completely re-laid," said Sven.
"When I visited Germany a few weeks ago, it was clear the pitch needed extensive work. That’s why it was important we had an inspection today involving Wembley groundsman Steve Welch with Tord Grip.
"I’m told the work will start at the beginning of May to ensure we have a first-class pitch for our first training session on June 6.
"The training pitch is the equivalent of the players’ home for the duration of the World Cup and it is vital it is of the highest standard."
Adrian Bevington, the FA's Director of Communications, added that it is vitally important to give the England team the best chance of winning the World Cup.
"All will be ready and in mint condition for when the England team take part in their first training session on June 6," he explained.
"It is vital we give Sven and the team the best possible facilities throughout the tournament and clearly the training pitch is an integral part of that."
The FA sought Welch's expert advice and having decided on relaying the pitch, asked the Wembley man to oversee the project.
Welch joined the Wembley team in October from Nottingham Forest's City Ground and is one of the most experienced groundsman in the country and a former groundsman of the year winner, so the natural choice for this task.
Welch said: "The pitch needs much work and we are now looking at the next steps that need to be taken to get it to the international standard required for the team.
"Once we have relaid the turf and it has bedded down it will be a superb playing surface in a spectacular location. Hopefully the beautiful setting will inspire the team to great things in summer.
"On a personal note, I'm delighted and proud to be involved in helping give the team the best chance of success in Germany."
