With this morning's news that Embrace are to record this year's England's World Cup song, lead singer Danny McNamara has written in his diary just how much it means to him and his fellow bandmates.
He was also talking live to Chris Moyles during his Breakfast Show on Radio 1 this morning and gave a few hints to what fans can expect from 'World at Your Feet'.
Writing on Embrace's Official Website Danny explained the huge task that faces them in producing England's World Cup song - but he feels they are ready for it.
"It's a massive challenge trying to write the official song for the World Cup and when we were asked my Dad put it best, he said: 'Do you think you're up to it? If you do - do it, if you don't - don't.'
"Well hopefully we are. We think we’ve got a really great song in World At Your Feet and with luck it’ll capture the nation's mood as well as New Order’s World In Motion."
With their latest single, Natures Law, reaching number two in the Charts on Sunday and their Album, This New Day, out yesterday, it is a busy time for Embrace but they were excited by the thought of England competing in a major tournament.
Danny said: "It’s a real honour to be asked and I hope we can deliver. Whenever England do well in a major tournament it makes you feel really proud.
"I remember the last time England were on a roll it seemed like every other house had a Union Jack hanging outside and even people not normally bothered about football were inspired by the team doing so well.
"We might not win it, we didn't win it last time but it was one hell of a lot of fun watching them try. I think we've got the song, I can't wait to get in to the studio and get it recorded. Hope you like it!"
Earlier today following the announcement, Moyles, the Radio 1 DJ, called Danny live on air to congratulate him and believes it's a huge honour for the band: "I’m so excited for you," he said, "It’s like, if you’re a musician or a singer in a band it’s got to be the equivalent of being an actor and getting the James Bond role."
McNamara explained more: "A few weeks ago we got asked and I was scared by the idea," he said.
"The guys from The FA heard it last week and they were all really blown away by it, saying that the hairs on the back of their neck were going, which is exactly what they wanted, so that’s a good start.
"I wanted to write a song that would appeal to everyone, not just the hardcore football fans. Everybody gets into it when England are winning or doing well."
The Embrace front-man went on to give Radio 1 a brief snippet by humming it to Moyles who asked if there was any chanting on the record.
"There’s got to be, hasn’t there?" responded McNamara, "some sort of rousing chorus – it’s Embrace for God’s sake.
"When you’re writing it, you're thinking: 'Are 50,000 people going to be able to sing that?'
“It doesn’t have the word ‘England’ in the chorus, and it doesn’t have the team from 1966 in there.
“If you knew it was about football, you’ll totally get what the words were but if you didn’t know it was about football then you could still like it as a song. I’m trying to get a song that gets everybody.”
