Eriksson purposely chose to play Uruguay in the build-up to Germany as they play the same style of football as England’s first opponents at the World Cup – Paraguay.

The England head-coach is keen for his players to experience the South American style of play and hopes it will put them in good stead for the opening game against Paraguay in Frankfurt on June 10.

Eriksson said: "Uruguay are the South American team who are most close to Paraguay’s style of play. Then we play Jamaica who are like Trinidad and Tobago.

"Uruguay keep the ball, they have good technique and they are quick. It's South American football and that is the reason we chose this game."

Eriksson will be hoping his side can get another victory under their belts and put them in the right frame of mind for the final two friendlies against Hungary and Jamaica at the end of May.

The England head-coach is already dreaming of leading his side all the way to World Cup glory this summer and has relished the opportunity to manage The Three Lions over the last five-years.

"I have had five fantastic years and I have never had any regrets taking this job. I hope the best is yet to come.

"I know the players and myself are dreaming about having a big World Cup."

Eriksson is currently due to name his World Cup squad on 8 May, but is urging FIFA to put the date back and allow him and the other national coaches more time to select their final players.

The England coach will attend a workshop in Dusseldorf that starts on 6 March and is hopeful that FIFA will put the date back to just a week before the World Cup gets underway.

Eriksson said: "We have a workshop in Dusseldorf in March and that will be one of the discussions. I have already spoken to some of the other managers about it.

"Marco Van Basten rang me the other day and he is very worried about that date. They want to announce to FIFA that they want the date to be later.

"We even had this discussion before the World Cup in 2002 because it was the same thing and FIFA changed it.

"Most of the managers would like to be able to pick their squad one week before the World Cup starts. I will have a meeting with the other managers.

"May 15 is the day we meet up with the players and then we have weeks of preparations before the start of the World Cup. We still have friendly games to play.

"The problem with FIFA is that you cannot change your squad after the final date unless you have a doctor’s approval that the player is really injured.

"If the date remains at May 15, we could have a situation where a player is really tired at that point or completely out of form. We would not have the ability to change it.

"It would be very good if we can pick our squads a week before the World Cup and I don’t see any reason why we cannot do that. We will discuss it at the workshop so I am not worried about it at the moment."
